Osimhen now Super Eagles
assistant captain – Official
Victor
Osimhen has been appointed as
the Super Eagles’ main assistant
captain, deputising for newly
named captain Wilfred Ndidi.
Osimhen will also take over as
the team’s designated penalty
taker following the retirement of
former captain William Troost-
Ekong, who previously held both
roles.
The leadership reshuffle comes
as the Super Eagles prepare for
upcoming international fixtures,
with Ndidi officially named
captain last week.
Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon,
both long-serving members of
the national team for nearly a
decade, remain among the
squad’s most senior players.
Iwobi is currently the team’s
most capped player, followed by
Simon.
According to SCORENigeria,
Osimhen was chosen for the
assistant captaincy due to his
wholehearted commitment and
dedication to the Super Eagles.
The appointments reflect a new
era of leadership within the
Nigerian squad as it seeks
stability and experience
following Troost-Ekong’s
retirement.
